These little Lo-Fi cameras, such as the Lomo LC-A, produce some really cool and compelling images. Aside from the Lo-Fi look of the Lomo, the other main feature of Lomography is the cross processing of the Color Slide Film. A while back, I was trying to recreate this look on my digital photographs. However, the few tutorials I found online, while they were a start, didn't really get me to the final Lomo look that I was trying to achieve. So, I made my own process, and now I have turned it into a full in depth tutorial for all of our SLR Lounge peeps. We have broken this tutorial into two distinct parts. In Part I, we are going to take a look at Lomo Photography and dissect the images effects so that we know exactly how to reproduce them in Photoshop. In Part II, we are going to start Photoshopping our image from start to finish. So, if you want to get straight to the Photoshop part of this tutorial, skip to the second video. In Part I, we identified the steps we need to turn our digital images into great looking Lomo style images. Full article: cheesycam.com This is me testing out the IndieHardware stabilizer with a Canon 5D Mark II + Sigma 20mm. Camera + lens combo i'm using is pretty heavy, and the Hague MMC could not handle this. What can I say? It works, it works better than a Hague MMC and is cheaper. Two things i'm not a fan of is the brushed aluminum and the small handle. That's not a deal breaker by any means, it's definitely a decent stabilizer for anyone starting out, especially with a Canon 550D / T2i. Check out the blog for the full write up.

For those of you that have seen the FStoppers iPhone Photo Shoot, they show just that, taking great professional-looking images on an iPhone 3GS. We wanted to add upon what they have already done and go one step further in proving this theory. So, we did an iPhone Photo Shoot tribute to the FStoppers. But, for this photo shoot we have set some ground rules: The Rules 1) iPhone Camera Only -- We are not using any additional apps or functions other than the iPhone Camera that comes standard with each phone. 2) Accessories Less than -- We are limiting all additional photographic accessories to less than each, and less than 0 in total for the entire shoot. 3) Non-Professional Model -- We are using our lighting assistant and friend Yoko as our model. While she is beautiful, she doesn't have any prior modeling experience. 4) Harsh Daytime Lighting -- We rescheduled this shoot to ensure that we didn't have any nice, photography-friendly overcast skies. The Zoom in the zoo (animals) video was recorded with Nikon D3100 D-SLR camera in 720p / 29.97 fps + Nikon 70-300mm VR telephoto zoom lens. I've taken several HD videos in the Zoom, shooting various type of animals. I've taken some shots at 24p, but have decided to shoot in 30p for smoother videos. The "Zoom in the Zoo" video was shot hand-held (without a tripod) with VR2 in 'On' state. The footage was imported to Adobe Premiere. I've applied some 'Levels', 'Shadow & Highlights' and Unsharp. It seems that Nikon D3100 video clips need some extra attention to look in their best. I will still miss the 3.5mm input jack that now exists on the D5100 and doesn't exists in the D3100. I am sure that with an external mic, I could have gotten better sound quality. I will upload more Nikon D3100 video sample so don't forget to subscribe to my channel. Thanks. I waited for a digital equivalent of my favorite camera, the Nikon FM-2 (compact, full manual control), but it never came. I even hoped to use my manual focus lenses again, but Nikon abandoned me - none of their entry dSLRs meter with AIs lens. I finally got the G2 after finding a Nikon to M4/3rds adapter. Guess what? Introduced in 1980, it was the successor to the original Nikon F of 1959, and the hugely successful Nikon F2 of the 70s, where both the earlier models were commanding a distinctive supremacy in the professional users' market. When the F3 was first announced, the heavy automation in the camera sent cold shivers down the spine of most purist photographers. As one can still recall, the price of a discontinued fully mechanical Nikon F2AS had a retail price higher than that of a new automatic Nikon F3 during those early days of its introduction, which was Nikon's way of saying 'move on', to the photographic community!

You can do this in Manual mode as well. #1 First set the ISO (for a Sunny day, pick lowest ISO, for cloudy start with ISO400) #2 Select aperture or f/stop # (your desired depth of field) Group shot or solo portrait? #3 Focus to see if shutter speed is fast enough - If Shutter speed is fast enough, take the picture - If shutter speed is not fast enough then increase the ISO to get to desired shutter speed OR open up your aperture to get to fast enough shutter speed. #4 If you're ISO is already too high and shutter speed is just shy of "minimum shutter speed" then see if you can open up the aperture Note: If your ISO is 100 or 200 and you're not getting fast enough shutter speed then you either open up your aperture OR increase the ISO to get faster shutter speed.
