Well with out a doubt the canon 35mm f1.4 is probably the most used lens in my collection on a crop sensor camera. The Canon 35mm f1.4 is ruffly a 55mm on a crop sensor camera making it an ideal focal length for filming. There are a few lenses in this focal length including the Canon 28mm f1.8, the Sigma 30mm f1.4, and the sigma 28 f1.8 but none of them preform quit as well as the Canon 35mm f1.4. Is the canon 35mm f1.4 worth it? If you have the money then yes, but at a price tag of almost 00 you could buy 3 mid range primes and still have a little bit of money left over. It might be better to have 3 good prime lenses then a single great lens. The Canon 35mm does preform better then any of the other lenses in this focal range, and chances are if your considering it you've probably already made the choice. I hope you enjoy! :) Shot on a Canon T2i 550d SLR camera with a 35mm F/1.4 L series lens. Recorded and edited in protools and video edited in final cut pro. The gear: -Peluso p251 tube mic for the vocals. -Shure KSM32 for most anything else. -Peluso TR14 as mono overhead. -DW Fearn tube mic pre on all the mics. -Don's Classic NV73 on bass and keys. Kick and Snare. The three "trumpets" are a Harrelson Bravura, an OLDS flugelhorn and a vintage King Cornet from 1905! The saxes are Yani's 991 and a Barrington Soprano Sax. The Trombone is made by Yamaha. All the keys sounds are of the Nord Stage, except the piano, from the Synthogy Ivory piano library. the bass is a Sadowsky Metro 5 with VTC. directly into the NV73.

Purchased this because the focus motor noise is pretty loud using my Nikon D5100's built in mic, I just wanted something that would reduce the amount of lens noise recorded. Does exactly what I wanted and they sell for around on eBay. In quiet settings it has a very noticeable hiss, so I use the built in mic and set focus to manual. Anywhere with background noise I dont hear the hiss. I'd love a Rode Stereo Video Mic, but I really don't need that kind of quality.
